FRIEDRICH EBERT STIFTUNG Its mission, both at home in Germany and in over 100 countries, is to promote democracy, social justice and economic-reform through cap- acity building, policy deve- lopment and promotion of dialogue. OUR OFFICE IN ADDIS ABABAThe Friedrich Ebert Stiftung began its activities in the early 1960s when Ethiopia was still ruled by Emperor Haile Selassie. Our operations were discontinued from 1974 when the Derg Regime under Colonel Mengistu Hailemariam came to power. Immediately after the fall of the Derg in May 1991 FES restarted its operations and in 1992 the Addis Ababa Office was formally opened. From its office in Addis Ababa, FES actively supports the process of political, social and economic transformation in Ethiopia. To this end, FES has established partnerships with non-governmental organizations, trade unions, think tanks, University as well as with government bodies, and parliaments. FES Addis Ababa is also the contact office to the African Union with which it has established a working relationship, especially in the field of conflict prevention and management. |
